The announcement text: |
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior RFIC Designer to lead the design of complex analogue radio integrated circuits on CMOS and BiCMOS processes.
Type of work undertaken by the group: The RF Systems Group forms a major part of the Wireless Business Unit and is responsible for delivering wireless IC design, specific radio hardware and overall wireless system design to clients of the WBU. In this role the RF Systems Group works very closely with the DSP and the Wireless Software Groups both of which are part of the Wireless Business Unit.
At a higher level the Wireless Business Unit applies standards-based radio solutions to a wide range of clients` applications principally in the telecommunications, healthcare, consumer goods and automotive areas. It pre-develops software and hardware designs for wireless systems (existing ones include DECT and Bluetooth), and can either license this standard intellectual property, or base novel designs upon it. The WBU has often customised a pre-developed radio solution to match a particular set of power, range and data rate requirements, whilst retaining the bulk of the design. This reduces significantly the cost, development time and risks.
Recent examples include a cellular radio telemetry system for real-time medical monitoring, a high-quality digital radio link for a professional intercom system, a cordless video-telephone system, and a wireless elevator call button in addition to a large number of more conventional applications.
Specific responsibilities will include: * Developing specifications and architectures for radio integrated circuits taking the wider view of the product and application requirements * Designing advanced radio ICs and constituent cells on CMOS and BiCMOS processes * Supervising the layout and back-end processes for complete radio ICs * Working at all times as part of a close-knit multi-disciplinary project team focussed on delivering the design solution to the client * Participating in sales meetings with clients to understand their requirements and demonstrate our clients capability * Preparing and contributing to proposals and quotations * Creating novel design solutions that will be of particular interest to clients * Identifying and pursuing new techniques and circuit solutions for RF IC design to maintain our leading edge capability * It will be advantageous but not mandatory for the candidate to have knowledge of board level RF circuit design in addition to his or her skills in IC design Minimum requirements: With at least 7 years` experience working as an RF IC designer for a company in the telecommunications or other relevant area, you will have extensive and essential experience of RF circuit and system design. You will be familiar with defining the architecture of radio systems on ICs with ability to analyse the performance of systems when implemented on real life semi-conductor processes.
A good knowledge of RF and IC CAD tools is needed as well as the traditional chart-based tools, as is a proven record of getting designs close to `right first time.` The ideal candidate would also have experience in one or more of:
Synthesiser and PLL design ADC design LNA design Ability to work with digital signal processing and modem designers
Salary £Depending on experience
